The most effective consultant CV – (and overall CV)

Last week Forbes Magazine published an article about how you will become attractive to an interesting company, in this case for an assignment. They pointed out that the key is to look for their greatest challenge and present how you could contribute to solve this in the best way.

To me this is very natural ever since I wrote my first book back in 2005 where I questioned the myths of effective hiring. But you could do even more to charge it and transform your information to a very effective consultant CV (this could of course also be applied to any CV). This is really natural – go for what the interesting customer or company are looking for and go from history to future, that’s the only thing that is really interesting.

I would suggest that you make your consultant CV into three parts:

– Find out and present your professional reputation. In this way you can In a trustworthy way introduce your attractive combination between your talents, passion and ambition. It’s this combination that forms your ability to inspire, your drive and credibility. This is exactly what the customer/company is looking for today when they talk about finding the right person.

– Look for the customers challenge, her greatest problems this year and present how you can contribute to solve this problem. This will indicate that you put down the time and are really interested – and not just for any assignment. 

– Present highlights from your past. Nobody is interested in your whole history. Instead present the relevant highlights – things and results that you are proud of to have  accomplished that are relevant to the customer or client.

And yes – you have to redo at least part two every time, but on the other hand it will take you closer to very interesting assignments and companies. Once you have analyzed and know your professional reputation you also have the most important part and the combination of the three is really unbeatable. And you don´t really need a cover letter.
