The purpose of the donation is to give all Japanese residents a way to get in touch with family and friends using the company’s SMS service for free.

The catastrophic proportions of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan have hampered communications in large parts of Japan as international media reports. Hopes are that people, who need to reach loved ones, will be able to use the SMS4PC service to communicate from a computer to mobile phones.

The possibility to use the service for free is also extended to help organizations like the Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without borders) and any other humanitarian aid initiatives in the tsunami area.
