.    ’Millennials'(människor födda på 80 och 90 talet) har svårt att komma ihåg flera lösenord
.    51% av it-proffs anser att deras system för access management är ineffektivt

Professionals are regularly compromising business information by using insecure and risky shortcuts to make their lives easier in the workplace according to research from Quest Software. The research, which surveyed over 1,000 office workers and 500 IT professionals in the U.S., highlights the inefficiency of complex identity and access management systems.

With many professionals tasked to remember on average five passwords, 42 per cent of employees opt to keep password details written down and within easy grasp to prevent halting workflow. Younger generations who have grown up in a digital world and who are now entering the workforce – ‘Millennials’ – in particular find it harder to remember multiple passwords compared to other generations in the workplace. 52 per cent of professionals admit to sharing log-in details with colleagues, while 23 per cent still have access to log-in details from previous employment.

The growing burden of complex identity and access management systems is also felt by IT help desks who claim that over a quarter of employee queries made are access related, wasting a significant amount of time and resources. Over a third of IT professionals (36 per cent) agree that the number of identities that they have to manage makes it difficult to get their job done and 51 per cent agree that managing employee access to systems is inefficient.

”Data security and access management are problematic issues in every organisation. There are very few organisations, public or private, that know exactly who has access to what. Whether employees write down password details, or it takes IT administrators a few days to restrict access after an employee has left the organisation, the security risk this opens whether in a hospital, local government or bank is vast,” explains Joe Baguley, Chief Technologist, EMEA, at Quest Software. ”In these days of austerity, identity and access management can be simplified and the benefits of doing so can only add to the productivity of employees and IT professionals alike, while also reducing the headache.”

Over half of IT professionals are increasingly concerned about insider threats to network security in their company’s current infrastructure and 90 per cent agree that companies need to do more to manage and protect users’ electronic identities. Eight in ten IT professionals also recognise that a single log-in and password for all the network systems, applications and websites needed for work would make their job easier.

To help simplify identity and access management within organisations, and to prevent unnecessary security threats, Quest One Identity Solution streamlines managing user identities and access privileges while increasing visibility and control through identity intelligence.
