Swedish film technology company raises 6m SEK Venture funding

The company based in the north of Sweden develops and sells the HAWC_system (”HAWC”) – a revolutionary product for professional film post-production.  HAWC is unique as it delivers tools for post-production that are independent of time and place.  A way of working and collaborating that has not been achieved in the industry before.

HAWC was first used in the Swedish long film ”Wallander – Hämnden” in 2008.  Since then the system has been used in a number Wallander films as well as in the critically acclaimed Millennium series of Stieg Larsson.

The investment will be used to firmly establish the product within the Nordic market and prepare for launch in the lucrative US film industry.  With the potential to change the post-production process and enable films to be made faster with lower cost and higher quality the company has an exciting future ahead.

”We decided to invest further in HAWC as they have a product that is truly revolutionary with enormous market potential and customer demand. ” – Lena Fridlund Forsgren Investment Manager at Innovationsbron.

For Håkan Karlsson – one of the original founders and a critically acclaimed film editor – it is a very positive confirmation of his vision to change the way his industry works.  ”Previously the post-production team would have to work in locations close to the production company or post-production house  – including team, producers and financiers who need to monitor progress. With HAWC the team can work independently and in different locations. Directors can ”visit” the edit room from a laptop and producers can monitor progress on their smart phones. Before HAWC this was unheard of in the industry.”

”The company has developed a service with the potential to revolutionize post-production work in the film industry. We also have great confidence in the team behind HAWC who have the right network and expertise to implement the business plan." – Eva Nordlander – CEO SamInvest Mitt AB.

Lars Karlgren of Sparbanksstiftelsen believes the company will also have a positive impact on the region in Northern Sweden where HAWC is based – ”A business with strong expertise in an exciting sector and unusually for the industry based in Kramfors.  It can encourage development in the region – creating demand for new jobs and attracting competence.”

The management team – led by Mats Jernudd (CEO) – has a strong mix of skills and knowledge from both the film industry and IT sector.  International business development experience and leadership will be provided by the appointment of Ashley Tott as Chairman. Nordicvibe AB were advisors to management on the company strategy and  successful fundraising.
