London, 21 June 2012 – NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced that it is partnering with SpiderCloud Wireless, a leading provider of 3G Small Cells for medium to large enterprises. SpiderCloud’s Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) technology enables mobile network operators to deliver scalable indoor mobile access and application services for medium to large enterprises more rapidly and cost-effectively than ever before.
As part of the partnership, NEC will provide the SpiderCloud’s SmartCloudT system to its existing and new customers as part of its end-to-end Small Cell solution offering which also includes Small Cell products for the residential and small enterprise market segments. The SmartCloudT system consists of a Services Node and self-organising Radio Nodes. The Services Node connects to NEC’s Small Cell gateway over the Iuh interface and the Radio Nodes connect to a Services Node deployed on the enterprise LAN.
Increased enterprise reliance on mobile access to voice and data anywhere, using personal smartphones and tablets, often referred to as ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD), has increased the pressure on IT professionals to simplify wireless access inside large and medium enterprises. For the first time, Mobile Operators now have a rapid and cost-effective system available for flexible deployment to enterprises of any size, addressing IT’s wireless challenges.
"The scalability, reliability and ease of deployment of the SpiderCloud SmartCloud system are ideally suited for NEC’s needs," said Anil Kohli, General Manager at NEC Europe Ltd. "With NEC’s Small Cell footprint covering more than 20 carriers worldwide, we can accelerate the deployment of E-RANs to help our customers serve their client base with a premium mobile services platform that is free from the capacity, time to market and cost limitations of DAS.”
"NEC has an impressive track record with Small Cell technology developments and we’re honored by the vote of confidence they are showing by partnering with us as we jointly scale to address commercial opportunities worldwide,” said Mike Gallagher, SpiderCloud’s chief executive officer. ”The E-RAN we have created is truly unique, and with NEC’s proven infrastructure and core gateways, we can jointly scale to help mobile operators meet enterprises’ wireless needs.”
NEC and SpiderCloud continue to innovate with an integrated 3G and Wi-Fi SmartCloud system. The new system provides mobile operators with a consistent management interface, automated RF planning, inter-small-cell mobility, quality of service, wireless intrusion detection and prevention, 802.1x based authentication and 802.11u. NEC has plans to support LTE in the future releases of E-RAN system.
