Acer announces a global alliance with world-leading thin client hardware/software provider, Devon IT, to address the increasing needs of commercial IT customers. Together, the two companies will offer end customers with a comprehensive solution that addresses the needs for next generation cloud computing, featuring security, manageability and affordability.

Today, the government, education, SMB, and enterprise users all look to take advantage of cloud computing’s security, low cost, and easy manageability. However, due to complexity of back-end infrastructure, very few vendors can offer a total solution.

Acer SRC solution consists of a new generation of the Acer server running virtualization software, and Veriton N thin client product series running Devon IT’s thin client software.

Acer AR380 F2 server provides 60% faster performance than the current generation to run desktop virtualization software, and can host more virtual desktops for thin clients at the same time. The Veriton N thin client product series offers secure, green computing and low TCO, to create a total end-to-end solution.

This partnership between Acer and Devon IT enables a total server to thin client SRC solution for government, enterprise, education, and SMB customers.

A thin client is a computer or computer program which depends on a server to fulfill its traditional computational roles, as opposed to the traditional fat client computer designed to perform the tasks by itself. Thin clients are components of a broader computer infrastructure, where many clients share their computations with the same server, which provides the main functionality and operating system. Shared Resource Computing (SRC) is also an easy way to maintaining computational services at a reduced total cost of ownership.
